on chef/owner Frank Pellino.
Pellino's Fine Italian Dining has been operating since March
1992. The
establishment seats approximately 50 people. The dining room is very cozy,
romantic, and quaint, with five trellised booths along the wall with raised dining
area overlooking the quaint streets of Marblehead. The tables are covered
with linen tablecloths, fresh flowers, and candlelight.
The chef/owner, Francesco Pellino was born in Naples, Italy and at the young
age of 9 emigrated to the United States. At the young age of 15, he took
a position as a dishwasher and within 6 months was assistant to the night chef
at a prestigious establishment in the late 70's known as Stella's of Boston. Throughout
his school years, he worked 30-40 hours per week in the restaurant business while
financing his college education. Upon graduating college from Northeastern
University with honors, Francesco Pellino realized that accounting was not for
him and remained in the restaurant industry.
At the age of 28, he opened his own establishment know as Pellino's
Fine Italian Dining. The food is regional Italian, with heavier
accents towards Northern Italian
with a Provencal flair. The food is rustic, somewhat peasant and chic. The
young chef keeps himself trained and up to date with he latest trends in the
food industry by enrolling in the Culinary Institute of America in New York and
visiting Italy on yearly visits. Also, by attending seminars, wine tasting, advanced
cooking classes and researching.
Pellino's Fine Italian Dining devotes time and energy to helping
others. It
participates in food shows for charitable organizations and received the "Peoples
Choice Award" in 1993 and 1994 at the SUCCESS Food Show which is a non-profit
organization that raises funds for the Swampscott Public Schools. It also
participated in similar events for the Saugus Public Schools and Marblehead Festival
of Arts.
Pellino's Fine Italian Dining received a 5 star rating from
the Marblehead Magazine
in its December 1994 issue. This is the highest possible rating and Pellino's
is the only restaurant in Marblehead to ever receive 5 stars in the history of
the magazine which has been in circulation since 1979. Boston Globe and local
newspapers have rated Pellino's a destination of the North Shore, A sure hit.
Pellino's is chosen yearly by the North Shore newspapers as one of the Best Italian
Restaurants in the area. Zagat Survey has always rated Pellino's very high, "A
