PeeWee A’s beat Wildcats 5-0

The Danvers Falcon Peewee A’s resumed their winning ways as they tamed the NH Jr Wildcats Saturday evening. Mike Allain was a stand out in net earning the shutout and knocking back 16 shots. Strong defensive play by Captain Tom Conway and line mate Zach Ryan helped limit the Wildcat scoring chances with their fine team effort.

Kyle Larson put the team’s first goal on the scoreboard finding the back of the net on a quick wrist shot. Line mate Will Walfield earned the assist after he made a nice shift up the left wing and sent a terrific pass to Larson for the score. Walfield’s passing skills were on display all evening as he also set up Pat McBride for a shot on net that was just saved. The Falcon defense dominated both ends of the ice. Dan Arnold made several heads up plays to repeatedly close off the blue line to keep the play in the Wildcat zone.

Jason Carucci gave the team a two goal advantage on a stinging wrist shot from twenty feet as he was set up by Mr. Assist Will Walfield. Brad Vautour was noted for his hustle in challenging any loose puck. Allain made two tremendous pad saves to end the first period of play.

Momentum was clearly on the side of the good guys and so were the scoring opportunities. Luke Sutherland and Dan Arnold dominated play at the blue line to keep the pressure on. Carucci nearly scored on a perfect one timer set up by Larson that was just saved. DJ Yost got another one timer moments later that just went wide as he was set up by the physical play of Derek Witwicki and Chris Kontos from behind the net. But it was Pat McBride that netted the team’s third goal on a terrific wrist shot as he was set up by Vautour from the corner. Kevin St. Pierre and Taylor Brown teamed up to sandwich a Wildcat skater to prevent a scoring opportunity and put the puck back onto a Falcon stick. St. Pierre made a terrific rush up the ice to set up another scoring chance. Yost netted the team’s fourth goal as he redirected a shot from Witwicki just inside the post and out of reach of the goalie. Joe Szela was noted for his physical play and strong back checking.

McBride netted his second goal of the evening and the team’s final goal as he sent a loose puck to the back of the net off a great pass from Vautour. The final period was a showcase of good skating, hustle and unselfish team play. Fine defensive play by Conway and Arnold helped limit the Wildcats to only four shots in the final period. Sutherland’s versatile play allowed him to shift to wing where he made solid plays. The Falcon offense continued to attack the Wildcats with some terrific passing. Kontos worked a shot on net after he stick handled around two defensemen. Vautour found Szela crossing in front of the Wildcat net for a scoring bid and moment later Szela dumped the puck to a streaking Larson for a quick rush up ice. The Falcons managed 27 shots on net and more than enough goals to tame the Wildcats.
