Falcons
beat Tewksbury Redmen
The Danvers Peewee A Falcons showed the Tewksbury Redmen
who was chief in another dominating performance Sunday evening. The
Falcons scored
all nine goals in the first two periods which was more than enough
to beat the Redmen 9 to 2. It was a strong effort from the entire team.
Mike Allain was once again brilliant in net knocking back 22 shots
on net; his finest performance was in the middle period when he was
tested by the Redmen but he came up shining. Allain also made a fine
play skating out to the blue line to take away a loose puck and a potential
breakaway. Luke Sutherland put the Falcons on the board first with
a nifty backhander assisted by Jason Carucci and DJ Yost. Chris Kontos
netted the team’s second goal with a wrist shot just inside the
far post; Will Walfield was instrumental with a great pass from behind
the net to earn the assist. Moments later Kyle Larson beat the Redmen
goalie to the top corner with a wrist shot for the eventual game winner.
Joe Szela was noted for his solid play against the boards and determination
to work the puck free from the Tewksbury skaters. Dan Arnold was terrific
on defense breaking up a one on one to prevent a shot on net.
Zach Ryan was a force at the blue line using his tremendous
slap shot to put pressure on the Tewksbury goalie netting two goals
in the middle
period. His first was on a power play and was assisted by Larson who
sent a nice pass out to Ryan waiting at the blue line. His second goal
was of the seeing eye variety dodging skates and sticks to find the
back of the net. Pat McBride kept the Redmen honest with some timely
fore checking; he opened the second period with a sturdy check against
the boards to knock a Redmen skater off the puck to keep it in the
zone. Strong team play and hustle were the hallmarks of this evening’s
performance and there was no finer example than when Kevin St. Pierre
chipped into the effort with a sliding save across the ice to prevent
the puck from leaving the zone.
Carucci scored the team’s fifth goal unassisted on a shot from
the corner that ricocheted off a Redmen skate and into the net. Taylor
Brown made a fantastic play at the blue line holding her ground to
stop a Redmen skater and Tom Conway was also solid at defense and got
involved in a few offensive rushes to help out the team. Yost earned
the team’s seventh goal on a nice backhander that found the top
of the net. St. Pierre made a series of highlight reel plays while
on short handed duty improvising with his skates while without a stick.
He managed to keep the opponents at bay and worked the loose puck out
of the zone. Kontos effort and determination paid off as he forced
home a loose puck in front of the net for the team’s eight goal.
And before the night was over Larson flipped a puck over the sprawling
Redmen goalie for the final tally of the evening; Kontos assisting
on the play. It was another fine effort from the team as they roll
to their twelfth straight win.
