Capital Punishment
The Falcons avenged their only loss of the season with
a dominating performance over the Concord Capitals. The Falcons once
again played
a strong team oriented game and got every skater into the game. Mike
Allain played brilliantly in net knocking down seven shots including
a fantastic save on a breakaway. After giving up a short handed goal
to the Capitals early, the Falcons settled down and took control of
the game. Will Walfield flipped in the team’s first goal finding
the loose puck in front off a Kyle Larson backhander. Joe Szela applied
the pressure early behind the Capitals net playing aggressive hockey.
Kevin St. Pierre stood out on defense with two nifty plays in the first
period. Once at mid ice deflecting a pass away from a Capital skater
and then again making a glove save against the boards to swat the puck
down to prevent it from leaving the zone. Larson netted the eventual
game winner moments later sliding the puck under the goalies pads.
Zach Ryan, St. Pierre, Walfield and Chris Kontos applied the pressure
to make it all happen.
The Falcons dominated the second period with ten shots
on net scoring three times. Pat McBride made a fine centering pass
to Szela for a
scoring opportunity. Derek Witwicki intercepted a pass at the blue
line and skated in for a shot on net. However it was Larson who blasted
a shot on net off a fine crossing pass form Ryan for the team’s
third goal. Jason Carucci netted the forth goal off a nice backhand
shot. The play was set up by Brad Vautour who knocked the puck loose
in front. Vautour scored the fifth goal with some dominating play at
center poking home a loose puck in front while fighting off some tough
defenseman. Dan Arnold made a noteworthy play on defense with a skate
save to knock a pass away. Tom Conway played a physical game on defense
with some crushing checks against the boards. Defenseman Taylor Brown
was tough jin the corners taking the puck away. She also had a fantastic
play in the fist period breaking up a Concord skater trying to break
loose. Luke Sutherland also played solid defense in front of the net
sweeping any Concord pass away.
St. Pierre got the team’s sixth goal on a wrist shot to the
near corner. He made it all happen with a tremendous play at the blue
line to keep the puck in and then skated the perimeter and around a
defenseman to earn the shot. The team play was awesome and the Falcons
worked the puck around the ice. DJ Yost got the team’s final
goal with a flip shot over the goalie into the right corner. The team
is on a roll and playing exciting hockey. The Falcons totally dismantled
the Capitals which is the only team to date to have beaten the Falcons.
