Danvers blanks Methuen

The Peewee A Falcons continued their winning ways with the total demolition of the Methuen Rangers led by the four goal performance of Kyle Larson. The Falcons applied the early pressure and did not let up all game. The line of Larson, Will Walfield and Chris Kontos was simply dominating and in one shift managed to keep the puck in the offensive zone for their entire time on the ice. Taylor Brown and Tom Conway were key to that success with their superb blue line play. Jason Carucci netted the Falcons first goal on a nice crossing pass from linemate DJ Yost with Brad Vautour also assisting on the play. Larson got the first of his four pack shortly after on a nice wrist shot over the goalie’s shoulder after having been fed by defenseman Luke Sutherland who earned the assist. Sutherland, moments earlier, was responsible for his one on one break up of a Ranger bid playing fantastic two way hockey. Kevin St Pierre was noted for his stellar play on defense intercepting several crossing passes in front to turn the play around. Mike Allain played perfectly in goal turning away 15 shots on net to earn the shutout.

The Falcons tallied three more goals in the middle period after peppering the Ranger goalie with 18 shots. Larson got his second on some great individual effort in front of the Ranger net to poke home the loose puck. Carucci got his second on a nifty backhander assisted from Vautour and Yost. Defenseman Zach Ryan let off a blistering slap shot that dented the right pole but did not go in. Pat McBride followed that with a great centering pass to Joe Szela who was circling in front for a scoring bid. The team play and passing is simply outstanding and has contributed to the surge in scoring opportunities on all three lines. “It must be the coaching” quipped one proud parent. Dan Arnold was noted for his fine defensive play breaking up any hopes of a Ranger offensive attack. Larson capped the period with his third and the teams fifth goal as he poked home a pass from Walfield following a St Pierre slap shot.

The final period was all about domination as the Falcons did not allow a shot on their net the entire period but managed to add three more goals to their already hefty lead. Derek Witwicki whacked home an awesome pass from Szela that came all the way from the corner. The tandom of Sutherland and Larson hooked up again for Larson’s final goal, a wrist shot into the far corner. And Yost netted the team’s final goal on an unbelievable flip shot over the Ranger goalie that was assisted by Sutherland. The Falcon’s are on a roll powered by a strong passing game and solid defensive play.
