Falcons shot out the
Tanners
The Danvers Peewee A Falcons marked another notch in
their belt as they totally dismantled the Peabody Tanners Sunday
morning shutting
them out 6 to 0. Mike Allain played another strong game in net earning
his fifth shutout of the young season knocking down 10 shots on net.
The Tanners had been the Falcon’s nemesis all of last season,
but this year’s edition of the Falcons proved to be too much
for Peabody to handle. Despite a scoreless first period, the Falcons
dominated play and consistently kept the puck in the offensive zone
pelting the Tanner goalie with 22 shots. All three lines played tremendous
team hockey passing the puck around to all corners to work the best
shot on net. Joe Szela, Pat McBride and Derek Witwicki were especially
effective working the puck around the ice fully utilizing blue liners
Luke Sutherland and Dan Arnold for outside shots. Jason Carucci was
noted for his solid fore checking and Witwicki for his aggressiveness
against the boards. The Falcon defense was stifling not only keeping
the puck in the offensive zone but quickly eliminating any opportunity
for Peabody. Captain Tom Conway playing strong defense alongside Taylor
Brown made a tremendous play intercepting a pass in front to erase
a potential shot on net. Fortunately for the Tanners, the siren sounded
ending the first period.
The Falcons opened the middle period where they left off applying
constant offensive pressure. Kyle Larson slid a great pass to Chris
Kontos for a shot on net that was deflected wide. Will Walfield scooped
up the loose puck circled around and wristed another shot on net. Give
credit to the Tanner goalie who kept the game close with some fine
saves. On the next shift Brad Vautour was robbed of a sure goal on
a fantastic shot on net. Carucci let off his patented wrist shot that
just missed finding the net. Kevin St Pierre followed that with a shot
from the point that was backhanded on net by DJ Yost. The Falcons did
not let up and finally put one in on a nifty flip shot by Yost over
the goalies shoulder, with Vautour assisting on the play. The Falcons
managed to take another 17 punishing shots on net in the middle period
including one from the blast master Zach Ryan who let off a wicked
shot on net that was miraculously saved. Brown was noted for her fine
defensive play swooping in to steal the puck off a Tanner stick. Arnold
made another strong defensive play outside the blue line waiting for
his team to clear the zone before sending a pass to a teammate for
a scoring opportunity.
The Falcon offensive attack proved too much for the
Tanners in the final period as the team ripped off five goals to
secure the victory.
Kontos put the insurance goal on the score board when he poked home
a perfect pass from Kyle Larson who beat two defensemen to the right
post. Yost got the team’s third goal on a great wrist shot from
the left side off a pass from Vautour. A few minutes later Witwicki
stole the puck at mid-ice for a breakaway to beat the Tanner goalie.
St Pierre was noted for his physical play in front of the net and made
a tremendous play lunging at a skater to knock a puck off his stick.
Line mates Larson and Walfield each got a goal and assist of their
own to cap the Falcon scoring. Strong team play has been the theme
for this year’s edition of the Peewee A Falcons.
