Peewee
A’s dominate the Dover Stars
The
Peewee A’s opened their season in grand fashion this morning
shooting down the Dover Stars 7 to 1. The Falcons skated to a scoreless
tie in the first period but clearly dominated play on both sides of
the ice. The Falcons showed some early signs of what was to come with
some strong team play, great passing and hustle creating numerous scoring
opportunities. Zach Ryan nearly put one home on a nifty backhander
and then on the next shift was again robbed by the Dover goalie who
couldn’t even believe he made the save (as he looked back into
the empty net). Chris Kontos got a great shot on net but was also denied
by the fine goalie play. Taylor Brown and Tom Conway teamed up on defense
to make several great plays on the blue line to keep the attack alive.
Brown made a heads up play chasing down a Star player to knock him
off the puck. Will Walfield was a force delivering some solid fore
checking against the Boards. Kevin St. Pierre played stellar defense
alongside Dan Arnold keeping the Dover skaters away from Mike Allain
in net. Allain knocked down twelve shots to help earn the win including
three times covering up a loose puck outside the crease.
Kyle Larson
started the five goal scoring binge in the middle period with a wicked
wrist shot that hit just under the crossbar, with Joe Szela assisting
on the score. The Falcon skaters fed off that first score picking
up the tempo to totally dominate the Stars with 50 shots on net.
Jason Carrucci and Chris Kontos applied the pressure alongside the
Dover net and found DJ Yost for the second Falcon score in front.
The Falcons, however, were not done as Derek Witwicki netted two
back to back goals within minutes of each other. Both goals were
set up by fine crossing passes from Ryan to earn the assists. The
final goal of the period came from Brad Vautour who made a terrific
shot in traffic to net the first of his two goals; Vautour was set
up perfectly by St Pierre and Arnold. Vautour was noted for some
stellar play in the corners dominating the play with fine puck handling
and maneuvering to find an open Walfield in front for a shot on net.
Allain
opened the final period with a brilliant save hugging the post to
knock down a blast from the point. Vautour netted his second goal
assisted from St Pierre and Walfield. The Danvers skaters kept up
the pressure with some fine team play moving the puck around well
and using their quickness to out skate the Stars. Larson netted the
final goal of the game (his second) the cap the scoring.
