Danvers Peewee A’s shoot down the Dover Stars

The Danvers Peewee A’s beat the Dover Stars 6 to 0 in their second meeting in parity round play. Mike Allain was spectacular in net earning his first shut out of the young season knocking down 14 shots including a sliding save on a loose puck in front of the net. The Danvers skaters once again dominated play at both ends of the ice. The Falcon defense was key to this success preventing the Stars from penetrating the blue line. Taylor Brown played solid defense making a great play early in the game breaking up a Dover skater. Luke Sutherland was also noted for his fine defensive play making some highlight reel plays including a tremendous three on one break up to prevent a shot on net that got the crowd cheering. The Falcons created several scoring opportunities during the first period and never let up taking 55 shots on net. Will Walfield was noted for his strong offensive play, hustle and passing that eventually led to an assist. Newcomers Pat McBride, Chris Milne and Brian O’Keefe made their presence known making several great plays. O’Keefe stole the puck at the blue line, skated past the defense and rattled a shot on net. McBride poked home a goal in the middle period off a fine centering pass from Milne. Derek Witwicki played an aggressive game at center and earned several shots on net. DJ Yost netted the team’s first goal deflecting a shot from the point by Kevin St. Pierre with Chris Kontos assisting on the play.

The Falcons ignited in the second period peppering the Stars goalie. Zach Ryan let off a rocket that just hit the crossbar and deflected away. Brad Vautour dominated with his play behind the Stars net controlling the puck and eventually finding Kyle Larson in front for the team’s third goal. Larson centering the line of Walfield and Ryan played well together and applied pressure all evening long. All three lines of the team moved the puck around very well and managed to find the open skater all night long. Sutherland earned an assist on his pass to Yost who rammed home a backhander for the team’s fourth goal of the night; Ryan also assisted on the play. Kontos ripped home the fifth Falcon’s goal on a wrist shot assisted by Jason Carucci who sent a perfect pass from the corner. Carucci got a goal of his own as he maneuvered up the ice and through traffic to net the final goal of the evening.

The Falcon defense sensing the shutout was near played a swarming team defense to prevent a score. Tom Conway played brilliantly on defense controlling the blue line and taking charge. Sutherland was a force turning the Dover attack away time and again while St. Pierre showed tremendous poise on the blue line knocking skaters off the puck; he also made a bone crunching check against the boards in the middle period to prevent a shot on net. In only the second game the Falcon’s team play is beginning to pay off.
