Peewee A’s lose to Concord Capitals
The Falcons played an aggressive game but came up short losing to
the Concord Capitals 5 to 3. The star of the game was Mike Allain who
played tremendous in goal knocking back 19 shots. Allain made two fantastic
stops on breakaway attempts to take away sure goals but his most spectacular
save was a quick glove save of a wrist shot destined for the top corner.
The Falcons once again demonstrated a strong passing game moving the
puck around the ice to the open skater. They capitalized early in the
game with the first score. Chris Kontos fired a wrist shot into the
top corner beating the goalie to his stick side after he was set up
on a fine pass from DJ Yost who patiently waited behind the net for
Kontos to get open. Jason Carucci had his patented wrist shot working
all night and let off a few rockets including one that was so hard
it knocked the stick out of the hands of the Concord goalie. Luke Sutherland
starting the night at defense got off a wicked slap shot from the blue
line that was kick saved away. Joe Szela was noted for his fine passing
particularly in front of the net to the open Falcon skater.
Taylor Brown played
solid defense and in one play forced a Concord skater off the puck
and against the boards. Sutherland also laid down
a few solid checks in the middle period shaking the Capital skaters.
The Capitals came on strong in the middle period testing the Falcon
defense. If not for the fine play of Tom Conway and Dan Arnold it could
have been worse. Conway played strong in front of the net swatting
away several loose pucks while Arnold held his position in front pushing
the Concord skaters away. Kevin St. Pierre, during his shift on defense,
made a critical steal intercepting a pass in front that was destined
for an open shooter. Brad Vautour played a physical game against the
boards and was also robbed of at least two goals on some fine play
by the Concord net minder. Vautour made a tremendous play in the middle
period gaining the puck for a near breakaway and cut in front of the
Capital’s net to let off a backhander that was miraculously saved.
Pat McBride joining the team for his second game laid a great check
in the corner to knock a Capital winger off the puck.
The line of Kyle
Larson, Will Walfield and Vautour was consistently outstanding generating
several chances all night long and finally netting
two of the team’s goals both in the final period. The first netted
by Walfield’s wrist shot on a fine pass from Larson and the second
a backhander by Larson which was assisted by Walfield. Both goals were
attributable to the team play and pressure by all five skaters including
Zach Ryan who had switched to defense for the final period. Despite
the loss, the team play continues to get better and the Falcon skaters
show that they will not let up.
